In Loving Memory of David McLoughlin.
Eulogy
On behalf of my family, I would like to begin by thanking everyone here today, and all who have sent their condolences. Your sympathies and support have made a real impact at this difficult time.
My name is Patricia, David's sister, and I'd like to speak a little about the David I knew.
David was born in the spring of 1992, and soon became my best partner in crime, and occasional patsy!
David could be quite a serious young boy, and would let me know in no uncertain terms when I had exhausted his patience!
We loved that serious little boy, but my prevailing memories are of milk sprayed across the kitchen table with laughter, and all the other ordinary bits and pieces of joy you find in a truly wonderful friend and companion.
About 6 years in, our brother Andrew came along, and David's role as older brother was embraced wholeheartedly, and with an exuberance that led to a few bumps and bruises from both parties, but ultimately I think David's most loved and trusted friend.
Not long after that, we packed up our little lives and moved the then unfathomable 25 miles north. David was not best pleased and again made his feelings known in no uncertain terms!
Though life had it's usual ups and downs in Drogheda, it was there I really saw David thrive. There were more friends than he'd ever known, new hobbies and interests all the time, occasions, events, and even girlfriends!
His enthusiasm and unique personality were cherished by his friends and nurtured by our parents, who we hold tightly in our hearts today.
David's love for music showed itself most notably here. Starting with wooden spoons and roses tins, and quickly evolving into an entire 4-piece band with a regular spot at 38 The Park and beyond!
Music, film, and literature remained a source of inspiration for David throughout his life, and I believe is a true reflection of the thoughtful, sensitive, and intelligent person he was.
While I still believe he owes me €20 for Megadeth being terrible, I'll gladly admit he was right about Jazz!
The latter part of David's life was definitely a more solitary pursuit. But a pursuit it certainly was.
Whether it was traveling, working, writing, performing, David did exactly what he wanted to do.
In his own way he followed his passions more than most dare to, and I think we could all do with being a little bit more Dave sometimes!
Over the past few days, I've heard so many more bits and pieces of who David was to different people, and the fascinating slices of his life they were lucky enough to see.
I can confidently say that David was a deep thinking, gentle soul, and we are all the better for having had this -all too brief - time with him.
David, we love you in no uncertain terms. May you rest in peace.
